From a sociological perspective, this article deals
with the relevance of the death of pet animals in modern society. It addresses
a discourse that has so far hardly appeared in the German research landscape and
thus promises interesting insights not only into the social handling of
mortality, but also into the significance of pets as life companions. The
findings are based on the author’s empirical research on animality and
sociality in the context of the life’s end.
